With Punto y aparte: Expanded Editionstudents develop more confidence for communication and begin to think critically about language and culture. This is achieved by focusing on seven communicative functions and the grammar structures that support them. These communicative functions appear at the beginning of the text and are recycled throughout, providing opportunities for review in different contexts. Since this is not the typical linear march through grammar one structure at a time, students are able to begin using language in a way that is creative and allows for natural language production. As the title suggests, Punto y aparte: Expanded Editionputs students on a successful path from simple phrases to more extensive, paragraph-length discourse. Built on the successful foundation of Punto y aparte,the best-selling brief intermediate-level text, the Expanded Editionoffers more grammar practice, expanded vocabulary, and a greater variety of cultural contexts, providing ample material for one-year intermediate courses, while maintaining the flexibility to be used in shorter courses as well. Because students come to Intermediate Spanish with disparate levels of language learning experience and proficiency, more challenging grammar receives less focus in the first half of the program, allowing instructors to tailor the program to their course depending on student level.
