Summary

This authoritative edition of Bartok's early works is the only version based on the Hungarian composer's corrections from his own memorabilia and original editions in the New York Bartok Archive. Edited by a Bartok trustee and archive curator, it includes an Introduction, translations of folk-song text, and commentary.

Author Biography

Hungarian composer Béla Bartók (1881–1945) was inspired by the themes, modes, and rhythmic patterns of folk music, which he incorporated into his own distinctive style. As a teacher, ethnomusicologist, and pianist, he was enormously influential in the direction of 20th-century music.
