The eruption of Vesuvius is, seen in today's light, a great fluke for archeology, because large areas of the city were conserved for research. Andrew Wallace-Hadrill explains archaeological remains from architecture and urban living, and takes a close look upon the daily life in the city. By evaluating the findings, as well as the written sources, he draws a picture of the bustling activity within the city.
