Born in Central Africa in 1933, Wilbur Smith became a full-time writer in 1964 after the publication of his first book, When the Lion Feeds. He has since written more than two dozen novels; his work has been translated into fourteen languages. Mr. Smith makes frequent expeditions to the dwindling wilderness of the world-Alaska, the Himalayas, and the African interior-in order to research the environments that form the backdrop of his stories.
